Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour title, took control to create a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
