An individual who laced sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males both between nine and ten.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on recently.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the police about his concerns.

She stated the defendant continued to engage in the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a area of five children.
