Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
