UEFA has commenced a disciplinary case against Chelsea's Pedro Neto following an incident where he knocked over a young stadium attendant during a Champions League match by PSG.
The 26-year-old, Neto, shoved the youngster in the dying moments of the last-16 fixture in Paris – where his team suffered a heavy defeat – an action that led to the boy falling from a stool.
The incident triggered a heated exchange involving the opposing squads.
Uefa said proceedings have been instigated against the player on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" under the official rules.
"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will take a decision on this case in the coming days," European football's governing body stated.
The Chelsea player said sorry after the match and blamed getting swept up "by the heat of the moment" when he sought to get back the match ball.
"This is out of character for me. It happened in the passion of the game and I sincerely apologise. My shirt was given to him. I feel terrible about it - an apology is necessary," Neto explained to the media.
"I have limited French, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha stepped in and told him that this isn't my normal behaviour.
"Eventually he saw the funny side and I gave him my shirt and said sorry about 35 times. He understood it was a mistake and was happy with how it was resolved."
The London club host PSG next Tuesday in the second leg, after Newcastle's visit at their home ground this weekend in the Premier League.
